As incoming President of NATAS, let me congratulate you all on
being either a member of the Society or, at least, being interested enough in the subject to open this portal! I hope I can retain your interest long enough to offer you a view of the hot topics we have planned for our next meeting, the 36th Annual NATAS Conference, which will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Atlanta, GA, from August 16-20, 2008. Over the years, we have established a tradition of kicking off the meeting with a series of short courses aimed both at the newcomer to the field and those interested in a more in-depth investigation of a particular subject, and these will take place over Saturday/Sunday, Aug. 16/17. The conference properly runs from Aug. 18-20, and has a host of exciting symposia covering many areas of current interest as can be seen from the program below, which, I like to think, can be summarized as 'hot topics-cool science!'
Why should you come to this meeting? There are many reasons. As a practicing thermal analyst, you may wish to present your research results in a forum of your peers. You may wish to learn all you can about a new area of research or consult one-on-one with respected leaders in your field. You may wish to attend our manufacturers’ exhibition and learn about the latest improvements in methodology and techniques while, at the same time, developing new friendships with others in your own or other fields of research. This is an action packed meeting with many different symposia vying for your attention while not lacking for social activities, too, with vendor-sponsored events, Society receptions, and the Conference banquet with entertainment to follow. If you have never been to a NATAS conference, let this be your first. If you do, it certainly won't be your last!
See you in Atlanta,
Andrew R. McGhie
